Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is the classic John LeCarre spy story set in the early 1960's in Britain and Turkey. I read and enjoyed all of LeCarre's novels. This is probably his most well-known and beloved.

The film is very very good. You will recognize much of the cast as actors from the BBC stable and from British film. And given the general high quality of British actors, you won't be disappointed in their performances.

You must watch the film closely as it takes some concentration to keep all the characters straight but in the end, it all comes together quite well.

As you may recall from the novel, George Smiley (LeCarre's lead character in all of his Cold War novels) discovers that there is a Soviet mole at the very top of Britain's spy "circus." He sets up a small group who work in a secret location away from the MI-6 offices to try to discover who this mole is. Meanwhile, the mole is working against him from the top of the "circus" and Smiley's moves are countered by leaks to the Soviets.

Excellent classic Cold War spy story. Do not miss it, especially if you are a John LeCarre fan.
