Under the Same Moon

My folks are visiting and so we all went to Reno to see Under the Same Moon .  Both are very very good. Under the Same Moon is a Mexican import about a nine year old boy who lives in Mexico with his Grandmother while his mother works as an illegal in L.A. and sends money home to support the family. The grandmother dies and the little boys takes off on his own to find his mother in East L.A.. He does not have a proper address but knows the corner and the shops on the corner where the phone box is that she calls him with each and every Sunday morning. So he plans to find that corner and wait for her. However he is 2000 miles away in Mexico and must make it safely to her. This is about his journey and his mother's life in L.A. trying to survive and avoid the Migra.

Excellent story, very well acted - the boy is a little genius - and is subtitled. You must put aside your feelings w.r.t. the immigration issue and just enjoy and learn from this film. At the end, I was convinced (even more so) that immigration in the USA is broken and must be fixed. Don't ask me how....just not a wall.
