Crazy Heart

Crazy Heart is excellent and Jeff Bridges ought to get best actor for his superb job as Bad Blake, a down and out country western singer. Bad Blake is an alcoholic, chain smoker (lights new one with old one), with four ex-wives, reduced to singing in bowling alleys and dead end bars. He is a train wreck.

Bad promises the owner of a bar to sit for an interview with his niece, played my Naggie Gyllenhaal, who works for the local Santa Fe paper. She's way too young for him and has a lovely four year old son. She gets involved with him despite her better judgement. She makes him promise never to drink in front of her son Buddy. The boy and the man develop a strong relationship. But he can't quite keep his promise with serious consequences.

Meanwhile, he gets an opportunity to revive his career by working with a major country western star whose career Blake nurtured years ago.

Lots of great music (I'm not a country music fan but I liked the music). Don't miss this one....at least for Bridges' outstanding performance as Bad Blake.

Film is set in Arizona, New Mexico and Phoenix. But all the filming is in New Mexico except for Houston scenes. Reminded me of how much I love New Mexico. Concert at the end of the film is at the Santa Fe Opera and scene out the back is of the Jemez Mountains..... Northern New Mexico captured my soul the first time I saw it. Still has it too.
