An Education

An Education is excellent (as usual with small British films) but very disturbing and you won't feel good when you leave the theatre after this film. Set in 1961 London, the movie is somewhat predictable - older 40ish predator seduces a16 year old working class school girl with concerts, nightclubs and trips to Paris. But with a sick twist. Her parents do nothing to protect their daughter and instead, encourage the relationship. The mousey mother is charmed by the creep and intimidated by her husband. The father thinks this sophisticated man might save him from having to pay his daughter's tuition to Oxford.

This movie made me sick to my stomach. Creepy predatory older men who sequentially seduce young naive high school girls should have their private parts cut off and left to bleed to death. Stupid fathers with intentional blinders on deserve the same.

However, the movie is excellent as is the acting even though it was very painful to watch. The girl is the only one with any guts so the story isn't a total disaster. After all, the girl grows up to write the memoir from which the movie was made.
