Amelia
The biopic Amelia is very enjoyable. Hillary Swank is a wonderful actress (underused in this role) and Richard Gere is as wonderful to look at as always as her husband and publisher George Putnam. Photography and costumes are wonderful. Story is good even if screen play is a bit shallow. Still I learned something new.
I would place the loss of her plane at least partially in the lap of the US Coast Guard. A Coastguardsman left the radio direction finder on the entire night before Amelia's flight. As a result it had a dead battery and could not be used. So the Coast Guard enlisted personnel trying to help her find the tiny island where she was to land and refuel, could not give her a heading to find them.
Movie isn't terrific but it is well worth seeing. The loss of both Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan was a terrible tragedy for American aviation. She was one gutsy, determined and very intelligent lady.
See it and expect to shed a tear or two at the end.
