Capitalism, A Love Story
Saw Capitalism - A Love Story with my folks in Alameda on Saturday. We loved it. Especislly my Mom. Many in the audience clapped and cheered at the end. When you go see it, stay through the credits as Moore adds comments and data at the end.
For those of you who don't know, this is Michael Moore's latest. In this documentary, he covers the financial industry and corporate America in general. He covers the greedy as well as a number of small businesses that are good citizens. There is much data (all fact checked by independent organizations), a number of stories of ordinary Americans, and also plenty of funny acting up (trying to wrap Wall Street in police yellow crime tape).
For many of you, you probably do not know that thousands of American corporations buy life insurance policies on their employees so that they can collect when the worker dies. A number of these companies do not provide health insurance for those same employees. There was a story of a man who worked at WalMart for nearly two decades and rose to lower management level. His wife also worked for WalMart. He became ill and died. His wife was left with tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills and WalMart collected over $5M in life insurance pay outs on the man. None of this money went to the widow. Appalling. Go to http://deadpeasantinsurance.com/ Why dead peasants - because that is the name by which corporations and insurance companies call this insurance. You can form your own opinions as to the connotation.
Anyway some say that this is Moore's best. Personally I think it is up there with Sicko, his movie on the health care in this country.
Do not miss it!
