For the actors it must have been painful to try and add a little life to this 3rd installment of a serial franchise.  There is an attempt to add a little freshness, with Ellie being pregnant and the Sid the Sloth wanting his own family.  My issue is the story just doesn't have enough to be a full fledged cinema release.

Sid finds eggs after falling through the ice that just happen to be some T-rex eggs and after hatching, imprint on Sid.  We are introduced to a new character, a crazy weasel, Buck,  voiced by  Simon Pegg.  You'll recognize his voice from the  Star Trek 2009 where he played the Young Scottie. I happened to like him bt mainly because he was new.

The other bright spot, Scrat, gets a new sole mate in a female counter part and there are some cute scenes with some close up animation that are good.  Poor Scrat, now has to decide over which is more important in life, his beloved acorn or his new love?

I was lucky that I have a 7 year grand daughter that insisted on seeing this so I had a good excuse. I have always enjoyed good animation and light comedies of this sort as a throw back to a different time of my youth and appreciate good animation. This one just fails.

I have to admit I more than mildly annoyed at the many shortfalls of this move and it's rather slow pace, incoherent plot that plays more like a string of related 5-6 minute cartoons.

Unless you have children fans, wait for the DVD if you must.
