Sandra Bullock plays a high powered New York book editor.  Faced with the prospect of a looming deportation back to her home in Canada, she quickly resorts to coerce a fellow employ and assistant into marrying her so she can stay in America.

The movie starts with a well written screenplay that gives more depth and background to the main characters so even in the even amidst the comedy we can take time to understand the motivations and feelings of the characters.  It strays from older Walt Disney films as it confronts comedy sometimes with a little more risque in a  partial nudity scene but still keeps it in the PG category.

Most of the movie takes place not in New York but  in Andrew's home town, a small hamlet in Alaska where we meet up with his mother played by Mary Steenburgen, father played by veteran Craig T. Nelson and an almost movie stealing performance by Betty White as Grandma Annie.

Things take a turn when Grandma insists the marriage take play right away in Alaska. 

Although as with all romantic comedies, we know the ultimate outcome. What makes this one worth the time is the better than average screenplay with just enough zany comedy to add a little unbelievable magic and a few extra laughs, yet at the same time we get some lovable characters that we get to empathize with and understand.  

Worth the big screen and a good date movie.
