Duplicity

The new comedy / thriller Duplicity starring Clive Owens and Juia Roberts is great fun, really a good entertaining ride.  Owens plays an ex-MI-6 agent and Roberts an ex-CIA agent who decide to rip-off two feuding US companies. The companies are Proctor and Gamble equivalents - making soap, shampoo, body lotions and toothpaste. The two CEOs despise each other. The film's opening sequence has the CEOs' in a knock-down drag-out brawl in front of their corporate jets in a thunderstorm with their staffs looking on and finally having to pull them apart. This little bit of comedy sets up the film pretty well. One of the companies has a new super secret blockbuster product. In fact, people in the company don't know what it is (except the CEO). The other hires the two agents to steal it. Roberts is to become a mole deep inside the company with the secret product and Owens is to be the agent "running" her. The two officially despise each other but are actually lovers in secret. The film jumps around between Owen's and Robert's first meeting as CIA and British MI-6 agents where she steals secrets (a list of Egyption agents) from him by seducing him and the present, and times in between when they are setting up their caper and the two companies' staffs and CEOs. So you have to concentrate a bit to put the pieces together. A great fun rollick and I didn't get the real caper until the very end. Sure had me fooled, actually doubly fooled!

Duplicity

asw — Thu, 03/26/2009 - 20:40

I think Duplicity is putting it mild.  Lin has the jest of this.  There is one con after anothr and you'll be wracking your brain trying to guess who is for real and what is real in this corporate spoof.  A ood Spy vs. Spy right out of Mad Magazine. Julia and Clive work well together although I didn't buy the on screen romance from either.
