I've Loved you for A Long Time (Il y'a longtemps que je t'aime)

I've Loved You for  Long Time is the English title for an excellent French film that was released last year. It finally made it to Reno this week. You can probably add it to your Netflix queue. Many movie critics have it on their top 10 list for 2008. I'd certainly put it on mine!   The film is about two sisters. One is happily married, a university professor with two daughters adopted from Viet Nam. The other is just released from 15 years in prison and comes to live with her sister's family, which also includes the stroke silenced kind father of her husband. This is a loving family where only the sister and her husband know the actual terrible crime the older sister committed. They try to keep it from everyone else, friends and their daughters and try to be as patient as they can while the sister adjusts.   The story is about redemption and familial love, understanding and forgiveness as the truth very slowly comes out about the older sister Juliette's crime. The younger sister Lea loves her sister very much and was very close to her as a child. However, when she committed the crime, their parents disowned her and refused to allow the younger sister any contact with or even to mention her older sister. Lea never stopped loving Julliette and takes her into the family with openness, love and patience.  Julliette has emerged from prison as a distant, withdrawn woman still in mourning for her crime and in considerable emotional pain. She steps into her new life as best she can and makes a few backward steps along the way.     Very very good.  Very well acted, with emotional depth tenderness and caring. It is subtitled in English.   Do not miss this film!
